Adoption Planning in Illinois and Chicago

Since 1988 Family Resource Center has been working in cooperation with women and men who were considering placing children for adoption. We have always shown respect and support for birth parents and understood that they were best able to make decisions for themselves.

In 2011 FRC developed the Adoption Center of Illinois as a place to focus attention on services to birth parents. On this web site and at the Adoption Center of Illinois we offer practical and emotional support to every birth mother and birth father we work with, and support them in making a plan for that they think is best for themselves and their child - whether or not they ultimately choose adoption.

We understand that birth parents may not be sure about making an adoption plan.
If a birth mother does not choose adoption, FRC will work with them to create a plan that reflects their specific needs, decisions and wishes.

We respect birth parents who wish to take an active role in adoption planning and choose the adoptive family. At the Adoption Center of Illinois and FRC we have a large number of waiting potential adoptive families - these are people who are waiting to welcome a child into their lives..

We support birth parents and adoptive parents in examining all of their options. We believe that it is up to them to decide what kind of communication they want to have before and after a child is placed for adoption.

At FRC and the Adoption Center of Illinois Birth mothers and birth fathers participate in adoption planning and they are supported in learning about and understanding all of their options - ranging from open adoption to closed adoption and every possible position in between. Contact can range from in person meetings to simply letters and pictures, or to no contact at all. One of our adoption counselors would be pleased to speak with any birth parent or family member about what adoption planning in Illinois and Chicago means and about what level of contact is comfortable and practical for you.

We recognize that many birth mothers may need financial support or assistance in obtaining medical care during their pregnancy.

When someone is thinking about placing a child for adoption and has started the adoption planning process we are interested in helping in every way possible and allowed by Illinois adoption law. For some this means helping to find housing and it may also mean helping a birth mother arrange for pre-natal and hospital care. For the good of the child they are giving birth to, birth mothers deserve to receive all the medical attention they and their baby need.

If you are a birth mother who is considering adoption and needs help with everyday living expenses like rent, food, or maternity clothes, please let us know.

We accept and understand that some birth parents change their minds. Any counseling, housing, medical treatment or financial support that a birth mother or birth father receives from Family Resource Center is given freely and without obligation. Birth parents have the right to change their mind at any point in the adoption process, right up until signing final and irrevocable surrenders for adoption.

At Family Resource Center and the Adoption Center of Illinois we have always honored and respected birth parent decisions. A birth parent will never feel pressure or obligation here!

We realize that the adoption isn't "over" when your child is placed.
