One of the great joys of international adoption from Family Resource Center is that adoptive families become part of a larger, more diverse community. Adoptive families reap rich benefits as they learn about their child's national heritage and become part of that cultural community. There are numerous support groups across the country where families come together to celebrate ethnic holidays and tradition: Families with Children from China (FCC); Families of Russian and Ukrainian Adoption (FRVA); and Children of Eastern European Regions (CHEERS) to name just a few.

At Family Resource Center we know that international adoption is not without risks and challenges, and we are completely honest with adoptive parents about potential issues. While there are plenty of children available in any number of countries, adoptive parents will not get a newborn infant - although many children adopted internationally are under the age of one. In some countries where the birth parents are unknown (such as China where infants must be abandoned in order to be adopted) the adopted child's family background and medical history will be unknown. The baby's birthmother may have received very little if any pre-natal care, and children often experience developmental delays.

For most adoptive families, the joy of parenthood more than outweighs these concerns.
