Family Resource Center Celebrates 21 Years of Adoptions

CHICAGO - Saturday April 17th a Gala dinner dance and auction was held at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare in Rosemont.  More than 300 attendees were there to help support Family Resource Center (FRC).  Both adoptive parents and adoption advocates attended and helped raise over $100,000, a great turnout especially in hard economic times.  The annual gala is FRC’s premier fundraising event. Since 2005, this event has raised nearly $600,000 to help FRC create and sustain families through adoption.

The evening was highlighted by a traditional Chinese Red Handkerchief Dance. Teens who were adopted from China as children spoke eloquently and movingly about their experiences. The event also featured a live and silent auction, dinner and dancing, and a $5,000 raffle drawing. Popular WTTW host and producer Geoffrey Baer served as emcee for the gala.

The President of FRC's Board of Directors, Larry Rosenzweig, commented on the importance of FRC and domestic and international adoption. "The money we raised tonight will help ensure that FRC continues to support both adoptive and birth families, find permanent, loving homes for children, and to enrich many lives.  FRC will be ready to provide support to our children and families, now and in the future."

FRC's Executive Director and founder, Richard Pearlman, noted that FRC has never turned away a child in need. About FRC's approach, he said, “Starting will little more than hope and a dream, 21 years later FRC is recognized as a practice leader in the field of adoption. Our pragmatic and compassionate down-to-earth approach to adoption has proven effective in addressing the needs of adoptive parents, birth parents and a growing community of young people who were adopted.”
