Notes From FRC's Board Chair

The Family Resource Center Board of Directors has recently welcomed two new directors. FRC's board continues to be interested in expanding its membership to reflect the diversity of our stakeholders and to provide good governance, oversight, and a clear direction towards the future.

Our board currently consists of adoptive parents (both domestic adoptions and international), adult adoptees, parents of trans-racial families, and African-American parents. In addition we are actively recruiting director candidates from the Latino, birth parent, same gender, and single parent communities.

In addition to providing oversight, one of the primary functions of the board is to provide funding to maintain and grow our programs. This means that directors should not only reflect our community or have a specific skill, but also be able to donate or lead FRC to individuals and resources that can support our efforts. All FRC directors play an important part of the board.

I am pleased to introduce you to our two newest directors:

Dr. Ronald Kimmons joined the board in April. He is a trained professional educator, now retired. Ron, an adoptive parent, lives with his family in the Chicago area. He has been a teacher, counselor, Principal and School Superintendent during his long career. He completed his Ph.D. in Education from the University of Chicago in 2002. In addition to doing consulting on educational matters, Ron is a writer and research Project Director and Coordinating Producer for the Central City Productions TV show, "Know Your Heritage". http://www.ccptv.com/main_kyh.html

Aaron Brooks, our second new director, joined the board in June. Aaron is an adoptive parent and an adult adoptee. Aaron and family live in the Chicago area. Aaron has an undergraduate degree in history and an MBA in finance, is a management and finance expert whose strengths will help FRC with analysis of data and assist with streamlining procedures to increase efficiency and maintain fiscal controls.

FRC's Board is actively looking to expand. Our goal is to continue to broaden the demographic representation on our board so as to better reflect the wide variety of people and constituents we serve. FRC's board feels it is important to have individuals who represent a wide a range of viewpoints and skills. My fellow board members and I believe that along with governance and long term planning, one of the responsibilities of a not-for-profit board is to have representation from members of the communities we serve.

If you know someone who you think would be a good candidate for a directorship on FRC's board, or if you are interested, please contact me, Larry Rosenzweig as FRC's Board Chair at

Comments and suggestions are always welcome.
