Birthmothers

Most birthmothers face challenges they never expected in an unplanned pregnancy. At Family Resource Center we have worked with many women in this situation and understand their feelings, worries and questions. We have birth parent counselors who are accessible 24 hours a day, every day, to help birthmothers explore alternatives and consider their options. Family Resource Center’s offices are located on the north side of Chicago, and birth parents are always welcome.  However, they do not need to come to us in order to get help. We can meet with a birthmothers any time and place that is practical and convenient.

Adoption is a respected and practical option for a woman facing an unplanned pregnancy, and it is an alternative that we can help her explore. In addition to emotional support, our adoption counselors provide practical support like assistance with obtaining medical care, coming up with ideas for meeting living expenses, and providing clean, safe temporary housing for those who have nowhere to stay. Our caring, experienced staff can help women locate the resources they need and find ways of discussing their pregnancy with family and friends.

Every birthmother, adoptive parent and child that we work with at Family Resource Center, receives personal service. Our primary responsibility is to help find children permanent loving homes through adoption. We treat everyone with respect and dignity. Our Birthparent Bill of Rights was written to help women considering adoption for their unborn child understand their rights. At Family Resource Center birth parents make as many decisions, or as few, as they choose.

  • Birthparents considering adoption can decide for themselves what kind of adoption they want - ranging from completely open adoption (where you meet and know the adoptive family), to closed adoption (where all identifying information is kept confidential), or anything in between.
  • Birthmothers and birthfathers who decide to place their child for adoption can choose the adoptive family to parent that child.
  • Birthparents, in cooperation with the adoptive parents, choose the degree of openness - how much or how little contact; in person, by phone, by photos - they want to have with each other before, during and after the birth and adoption of the child.

If you are a birthmother looking for a warm, accepting, non-judgmental environment where you can carefully consider your unplanned pregnancy, call us today at 1 (800) 676-2229.
