Making an Adoption Plan

When a woman is facing an uplanned pregnancy, adoption can be a positive option for both the birth mother and her baby. For more than 18 years FRC's adoption counseling staff has been listening to birth mothers and birth fathers and helping them to understand adoption and their options.

Our adoption counselors are happy to meet with birth parents in-person or speak with them over the telephone to offer support and services. Over the years we have also worked with birthmothers in the hospital after their children were born.

The fact is - our Adoption Counselors are available to speak with birth mothers and birth fathers 24/7
365 days a year.

FRC has helped more than 1000 birth mothers create their own adoption plan. We are of the opinion that there is no "right way" to conduct an adoption - we have always respected the wishes of birth parents and adoptive parents and believed that they can decide for themselves how much contact they want with each other and between birth parents and their children – before birth and afterwards.

What is right for you? Open adoption? Closed adoption? Somewhere in between? How do you decide?
By knowing the facts and all the options that are available to you. An FRC Adoption Counselor can help you get the information you need to consider what's right for you.

We strongly believe in the importance of openness in adoption and in the right of birth parents to decide what kind of adoption they want for themselves and their child.

When a birth mother speaks with an adoption counselor, they go over the whole adoption process in detail. An FRC adoption counselor will make sure that birth parents understand their rights, their options, and the the possibility of taking an active role in choosing who will raise their child.

At Family Resource Center birth mothers and involved birth fathers have access to the profiles of all the families currently working with FRC. Birth parents can view adoptive parent photos, read adoptive parent letters, and get a feeling about each family. If birth parents wish, they can meet the prospective adoptive parents in person. This provides birth parents and adoptive parents a chance to get to know each other and explore feelings about all sorts of issues. These issues may range from whether or not they want the adoptive parents to be present at the birth, to how much contact they'd like after placement.

For some birthmothers, the choice of an “open adoption” makes sense and for others it can be too overwhelming. The point is this....at Family Resource Center we honor birth mother's thoughts and feelings.

Throughout the adoption process, Family Resource Center is there to help with the paperwork, ensure that all parties fully understand all the legal issues involved, and make certain that they are comfortable with the process.

In working with Family Resource Center birth mothers have many options and their choices will always be respected. Our motto, "Our Help, Your Decisions" is more than just words.
